Platelet Rich Fibrin
Natural Regenerative Medicine has arrived in Dentistry!
Never has a technique impacted surgical dentistry as much as this new all-natural healing technique.
Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a technique that involves purifying and isolating your body’s own natural healing and growth factors from your own blood. On the day of the procedure, Dr. Bartsch will take a small sample of your blood and place these samples in a specially designed and calibrated centrifuge. After only 12 minutes
What is platelet rich fibrin (PRF) ?
PRF is a matrix of concentrated platelets, leukocytes (white cells) and fibrin obtained and isolated from your own blood.
Why is it recommended in dental surgery?
This technique has been scientifically proven to enhance and improve your own body’s healing and regeneration systems, that decreases your chances of having post operative complications dramatically. Techniques such as this have been used in regenerative medicine for several years and have been proven in the rapid healing seen in elite athletes following injuries.
How is it performed?
A small amount of your own blood is drawn, far less than if you were to donate blood, that is spun in a special centrifuge at a very specific RPM and a very specific angle of rotation. The fibrin matrix is then separated from the coagulated blood, yielding the platelet rich fibrin gel.
What can I expect following the procedure?
Very little, discomfort, if any. Likely a small bruise at the puncture site, exactly the same is if you were to have a blood test done.
What makes PRF so successful?
This technique uses your body’s own healing and growth factors. These include; transforming growth factor (TGF), platelet derived growth factor (PDGF), insulin-like growth factor (IGF), cytokines, leukocytes, fibrin releasing vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and other growth and healing mediators, in a concentrated form precisely where they are needed.
